This was supposed to be a poetic – or at least a not so informative – article, since we flew our kites here more than we care to count. We told you pretty much everything about this beautiful place in the Ljubljana Marshes landscape park and the river Ižica meandering through it.

But …

A horrific disaster happened far far away, in a place that cannot be more different – yet is loved just the same. And a river runs through it too.

The river is called Sabarmati. The place – Ahmedabad.

Our beloved Amdavad.

Now this heart of green is clouded by sadness. Our hearts are clouded by sadness.

The meandering Ižica thinks of her big sister, a goddess created by gods, now a river of tears.

We know Amdavad is strong; we know this disaster will soon transform into yet another scar on the soul of the indomitable city, slowly fading, becoming one with the fabric of history that shrouds the banks of Sabarmati.

The clouds will release raindrops and wash away the tears, the wind that carries the kites will smooth the memories.

These Marshes will remain lush and green, and the reddish-brown, hot and enterprising city halfway around the globe will be again bustling with joy, and Sabarmati will be a mirror for millions of dancing patangs.

For now though, the moist Marshes and the arid plains of Gujarat, the meandering Ižica and the majestic Sabarmati are all joined by a unique river. A tributary not of water, but of love.

Lots of love.
