First Relaxing Kite Flying Session of the Spring

Winter is hard to kiters.

It’s cold. And it’s wet. And the sun disappears at 4 PM.

India comes to help, and we spend a sizeable chunk of the darkest month, January, in hot and sunny Gujarat (and other fantastic places).

But winter means waiting. Waiting for the sun, for the first yellow flowers, for the nice wind from the west.

And this Sunday it happened: the sun was shining brightly, forsythias and primroses were loudly talking to bees in yellow, and a playful wind was blowing from the west.

It was time to dust the bags, and take the kites for a spin above our regular flying spot, Ljubljana Marshes!

And we had two sky premieres! A colourful Royal69 sled by Janez of Dr. Agon kites

… and a LED-laden astronaut.

“Hey Žare, you have a LED kite, how did you make it work?”
“Did you read the instructions?”
“Of course not …”

The flying monsters were attracting people who saw them from the main road and just had to tcome closer and see what’s going on.

And the sun went slowly down …

… but we let the kites fly deep into the velvety spring evening.

And the moon was smiling high above us all.

A perfect, relaxing kite flying session. Hopefully the first of many this year!
